The World of Rocket League

As you’ve probably guessed by now, the World of Rocket League is based off science fiction movies and shows from the golden era of science fiction flicks - the 1950s. Typical of the era would be movies such as Forbidden Planet (1956), It: The Terror from Beyond Space (1958), and television shows such as Space Patrol (1950-56), and Rocky Jones, Space Ranger (1953-55). Even earlier serials such as Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940), and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1934) played a major role in the genre. As such, it is meant to be played in a lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek, and adventurous spirit. Many of these features still show on television and you can probably still find these movies for sale or rent at your local movie rental stores or on the internet. The internet also provides a decent range of background information by doing searches for things like "1950s science fiction" or any of the specific titles above.

So forget everything you think you know about how the future turned out! Forget cell phones, the internet, computers smaller than a room, plastics, and virtual reality. In the world of Rocket League, atomic rockets and flying saucers carry clean-cut space cadets everywhere from the moon, to Mars, and to planets beyond the solar system in a matter of days or weeks! Death rays built by mad scientists threaten civilization, tin-can robots help and hinder, multi-eyed slime monsters attack explorers, matriarchal alien seductresses plot to overthrow the Earth, and only the men and women of Rocket League can save them! As you can see, the adventures of Rocket League are plot and character driven, rather than focusing on technology, technicality, or reality. The world of Rocket League is not our future, but a fantasy version of what the future was thought to be like to Hollywood in the 1950s.

The Rocket League Organization:

The Rocket League is a special space defense and exploration force set up by the democratic governments of planet Earth to watch out for any threats from the mysterious cosmos – be they natural or diabolical. Often, Rocket League is also charged with deep space expeditions to alien planets for exploration, scientific, or diplomatic purposes. Occasionally, a Rocket League task force may be deployed to different places on Earth itself if a threat resides on or beneath the surface – especially (but not always) if it is related to outer space.

Strange forces and powers inhabit the realm beyond the stratosphere, and our Earth ships have only begun to tap them. Already, Rocket League has discovered that various alien creatures and civilizations exist on and beneath the surface of the moon, Mars, and perhaps Mercury, Venus, and Titan. The nine planets of our solar system appear to be as diverse as our own world and there is still much to be explored about each of them. Just beyond the known planets at the fringe of the Solar System, the mysterious Planet X lies almost completely unknown to us, although several expeditions have been planned.

But deep into outer space beyond the realm of our Sun, even more mysteries await. Already, our crews have had contact with a few worlds in these nether regions. Occasionally threats have come, as well as friends and only time will tell which is the norm and which the exception.

The Rocket League has constructed a small base on the moon, from which it hopes to explore the rest of the rocky body. In addition, they have also constructed two pinwheel-type space stations; one in Earth orbit and another halfway between Earth and Mars. These stations serve as refueling and repair bases for the Rocket League fleet. Given the cost of space travel, civilians are rarely to be found in space, unless traveling along with a crew for a special purpose. While resources make space stations beyond the solar system prohibitive, our rockets and saucers can nevertheless reach untold numbers of planets in those regions, arriving back home to Earth or an Earth base after each expedition.

In its travels, Rocket League employs the most sophisticated lasers, disintegrator rays, radar, atomic spaceships, and other technologies in the pursuit of knowledge and justice. Occasionally, amazing robots will also be deployed with a task force to aide in calculations, going into dangerous areas, and performing feats of great strength.

The Rocket League also takes care with public relations and helping the youth learn about space, democracy, and justice. In this regard, they may sometimes allow passengers such as reporters, diplomats, scientists, and even students and teachers on expeditions deemed safe. The Rocket League game book will include other sections that further describe the world of Rocket League, including: "Equipment and Technology", "Spectacular Spaceships of the Cosmos", "Rocket League’s Most Wanted", and "Maniacal Monsters of the Universe".
